The Perfect Oatmeal Breakfast

There is nothing more wonderful then having a perfectly cooked oatmeal in a cup!

Oatmeal is one of my most favourite option for breakfast. Despite our hectic mornings, I always make sure we are having a complete breakfast before we leave home.

I usually buy one box of instant oatmeal (I love peach flavour the most) and mix it with a bag of regular oats. By doing so you get a perfect blend of flavour each time.

There are so many ways you can cook oats.  I like mine with lots of milk. Perfectly tender and soft, but not mushy.  Most of the time when I make oatmeal, the bottom of the pan always burns. Very annoying. Lately, I have discovered if I add water to the milk, it pro-longs the boiling process and I can cook the oatmeal to my desired softness without burning the bottom.

So here is how I make my perfect bowl of oatmeal every morning.  Based on the amount of oats add milk and half a cup of water and bring to a boil.  Don’t leave it unattended!  Once it comes to a boil turn the heat to low and let it simmer for 3 – 5 minutes.

When ready, add half a cup of cold milk. I have learned this trick from a good friend. The cold milk reduces the temperature and it also adds extra smoothness.  Brilliant idea!

Ps. Some times it is useful to make a bigger batch enough for two servings. To keep half in the fridge for next day. All you have to do is add half a cup of milk on top of clod oatmeal and microwave it for 1-2 minutes.  A perfect breakfast will be ready in no time.

Blueberries and bananas are my two most favourite fruits that complements oatmeal the best.  I will admit, that some times I love to have a nice bowl of oatmeal just before going to bed.
